Miller was connected to a fatal shooting in Tuscaloosa involving his former teammate, Darius Miles, but Miller himself has not faced any charges.
Despite speculations that the Hornets may have drafted G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson over Miller, they opted for Miller due to team needs.
Miller, who averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists over 37 games last season, became the second player in Alabama program history to be selected No. 2 overall.
