Robert Griffin III admitted to receiving a lecture from ESPN after making an inappropriate joke during this college football season. While covering a game between Oregon State and Stanford, Griffin said, “Let’s see how much wood these beavers can take.”
He acknowledged making several borderline comments during the game and revealed that ESPN contacted him afterward, not to threaten his job but to emphasize the need for more discretion in his humor.

“Early in the game, I’m like, ‘Hey, let’s see how much wood these beavers can take.’ It wasn’t immediate, but I had like six other borderline things that I said in that game,” Griffin explained. “It’s not bits. The majority of things I say are right off the dome. There are a couple you can point out. I got a call after the game because it was egregious.”
Griffin expressed awareness of the challenges posed by cancel culture, and it remains to be seen if he will adjust his approach in future broadcasts.
