After the Milwaukee Bucks’ season-ending loss to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, guard Patrick Beverley caused a stir by refusing to answer questions from ESPN producer Malinda Adams because she wasn’t subscribed to his podcast.
Beverley told Adams, “Can you move that mic and get out of the circle for me please, mam? If you’re not subscribed to my pod? Thank you, I appreciate that.” His actions quickly drew widespread criticism from NBA fans, who felt it was inappropriate to exclude a media member for such a reason.
Shortly after the incident, Adams updated the public via a post on X. She revealed that Beverley had reached out to apologize for his behavior. “I want to thank everyone for their kind words and support,” Adams wrote. “I am humbled. Patrick Beverley just called me and apologized. I appreciate it and accept it. The Bucks also reached out to apologize. I’ve been in news for over 40 years and kindness and grace always win.”
While Beverley’s apology was welcomed, it didn’t completely mitigate the impact of his initial disrespect. Discussions have emerged about whether the NBA should take disciplinary action, including a possible fine. Jemele Hill commented, “You handled this with a lot of grace. A hefty league fine should still be in order.”
ESPN’s Ben Cafardo also supported Adams, stating, “Malinda is a well-respected colleague and a true professional. She has our full support.”
The NBA has yet to decide on any action against Beverley, but the incident has highlighted Adams’s professionalism and ability to handle challenging situations with dignity.
