A statement has been issued by a spokeswoman for Erin Andrews addressing her previous remarks regarding sideline reporting alongside Charissa Thompson.
Thompson made significant waves recently by confessing on “Pardon My Take” that she occasionally “made up” her halftime and in-game reports when coaches were unavailable or didn’t provide quotable material.
While attempting to clarify her comments, Thompson faced continued criticism from the sports media world. Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time she mentioned such practices; in 2022, during a podcast with Erin Andrews, Thompson shared a similar anecdote about fabricating a report when faced with uncooperative coaching responses.
Erin Andrews, in response, acknowledged having done something similar. She mentioned making up a report for a coach who was providing inaccurate information and one she didn’t want to undermine publicly.
“I was like, ‘Oh coach what adjustments are you gonna make at halftime?’” Thompson said. “He goes, ‘That’s a great perfume you’re wearing.’ I was like, ‘Oh f–k, this isn’t gonna work.’ I’m not kidding, I made up a report.”
Andrews replied: “I’ve done that too. For a coach that I didn’t wanna throw under the bus because he was telling me all the wrong stuff.”
A statement from Andrews’ spokeswoman, Jill Fritzo, has been released. It emphasizes Andrews’ commitment to accuracy in reporting throughout her career. Fritzo explained that Andrews collaborates closely with coaches, players, and PR staff to ensure the precision of her reporting. She noted that Andrews draws on information from prior meetings with coaches and is transparent about the sources of her on-air information.
“For her entire career, Erin Andrews has worked very closely with coaches, players and P.R. staffs to ensure accuracy in her reporting,” Jill Fritzo said.
She added: “she took information from earlier meetings with coaches to include in her reports, and that when she was on the air she was always ‘clear’ about where her information comes from.”
Erin Andrews, serving as the primary sideline reporter for FOX’s National Football League coverage, is known for her dedication to the profession.
