Earlier this year, former NFL star Earl Thomas fell victim to a $1.9 million identity theft scam. Kevin Thompson, who was romantically involved with Thomas’ ex-wife Nina, was arrested in June in connection with the fraudulent activities. Law enforcement revealed that Thompson had been unlawfully cashing Thomas’ NFL pension checks, directly siphoning funds from the retired player’s bank account.

Additionally, Thompson transferred ownership of several vehicles and used false identity information, containing Thomas’ details, to open a bank account. It was also reported that Thompson cashed over $700,000 of Thomas’ NFL earnings. Thompson is currently out on bail.
Thomas retired from the NFL in 2019 after a brief stint with the Ravens but is most renowned for his nearly decade-long tenure with the Seahawks as a key member of their iconic “Legion of Boom” defense.
However, Thomas has faced a negative spotlight since leaving the league, with his ex-wife’s arrest in 2020 for pointing a gun at his head during an alleged confrontation over an affair. In 2022, Thomas was arrested for violating protective orders against his wife and children.
In addition to these personal challenges, Thomas experienced the loss of his home in a fire last year. The house in Orange, Texas, was struck by lightning, leading to a devastating blaze. Although Thomas was at home at the time, he managed to escape unharmed. This incident added to the series of setbacks Thomas faced.
In early 2022, Thomas expressed a desire to return to football in an interview with ESPN. However, around a month later, Thompson initiated the identity fraud scheme against him. Despite Thomas being prepared for a comeback, it never materialized, and he remains out of the league. The ongoing fraud investigation adds another layer to Thomas’ challenging post-NFL period.
