Not so fast Devon Allen.
Devon Allen, wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles, has declared himself as the fastest player in the NFL.
Known for his speed on the track, Allen believes that his exceptional athleticism sets him apart from his fellow NFL players.
In an interview with TMZ, Allen confidently stated, “I definitely am [the fastest]. I’m not going to undermine Tyreek Hill and DK Metcalf because their performances in track were impressive.”
Allen added, “I raced Tyreek Hill in high school, and he was faster than me back then. DK Metcalf running a 10.3 a few years ago, considering his size, is incredibly impressive. However, when it comes to the top level, there’s a significant gap in performance.”
While Allen’s claim is supported by his impressive track record, including running the fourth fastest 110-meter hurdles time of the year, skeptics point to his limited success in football.

Despite his exceptional speed, the 28-year-old receiver has yet to secure a spot on an NFL team’s roster, raising doubts about his overall football ability. In his defense, Allen took a break from football to focus on his track career but has since decided to return to the NFL to pursue his dreams.
Reflecting on his experiences during the 2022 season with the Eagles, Allen admitted that the transition from college to the NFL was challenging. He acknowledged that playing at the University of Oregon, a high-level program, was not the same as the professional level.
Allen’s comments highlight the stark contrast between excelling in college football and thriving in the NFL. Having raw physical attributes alone may not be enough to have a lasting career in the league.
While Allen’s speed may be unmatched, he faces an uphill battle in establishing himself as a valuable NFL player. With the 2023 season approaching, time is running out for Allen to prove himself and elevate his game to the necessary level.

While speed is undoubtedly important on the field, past track stars have learned that success in the NFL requires more than just velocity.
Allen must demonstrate an understanding of the game’s complexities, refine his route-running skills, and make significant contributions to his team’s offense.
