EA Sports has yet to release “College Football 25,” but the game is already stirring controversy, particularly for its high rating of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders boasts an impressive overall rating of 93, tying him with Georgia star Carson Beck for the top quarterback spot.
While fans generally agree that Shedeur deserves to be among the top-rated quarterbacks, many are baffled by his awareness rating of 98. Critics argue that this rating is overly generous given his performance last season.
One fan sarcastically tweeted, “98 awareness for a guy who took 73 sacks last year is objectively hilarious.” Another fan commented, “That October ratings adjustment is going to hit like a pile of bricks for CU.”

The debate over Shedeur’s rating even reached his father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, who addressed the issue during Big 12 Media Days. “Coach Prime” expressed his displeasure with Shedeur being tied for the top spot at his position. “How’s there a tie? … That’s like, do you hate so bad that you’ve got to give them a tie? There ain’t no ties in football. We don’t want no tie. No. We ain’t accepting no tie. Ain’t no tie. Just say what it is. … You get him off this team and take the other one, put him on my team and see what the record is,” Sanders said, via On3.
The scrutiny over Shedeur’s rating sets the stage for an intriguing college football season. With high expectations placed on him, Shedeur has the opportunity to prove his critics wrong this fall.
Whether he will live up to his lofty rating remains to be seen, but all eyes will be on him as the season unfolds.
