Drew Bledsoe joined a lineup of speakers at Netflix’s “The Roast of Tom Brady” on Sunday night, where he delivered a pointed joke about Brady’s recent divorce from model Gisele Bundchen.
During the roast, Bledsoe quipped, “Two things I’ve experienced that you never will, Tom. Being drafted as the 1st pick in the Draft and celebrating a 28th wedding anniversary. That was yesterday, Happy anniversary, babe.”
The following day on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz,” Bledsoe disclosed that the joke actually came from his wife, Maura. “My brother, one of the funniest humans I know, he helped out and then — I’m going to get in really, really big trouble for this, but I’m willing to wear it, the Gisele joke, that actually came from my wife. Don’t tell her I told you,” Bledsoe admitted. He added that the line was a milder replacement for a much harsher joke he had initially written, which his wife vetoed.
The content of Bledsoe’s original joke remains a mystery, as he insisted to Le Batard that he could not share it.
Bledsoe wasn’t the only one targeting Brady’s personal life during the roast. Reports suggest that Bundchen was not pleased with how the roast portrayed her family. “A source tells PEOPLE that the model, 43, is ‘deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show,'” reported Charna Flam and Charlotte Triggs.
