Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, renowned for his own on-court theatrics, delivered a message to Patrick Beverley on his podcast following the controversies surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks guard on Thursday night.
“Pat, you can’t keep having these moments, man, at the end of these losses,” Green said on The Draymond Green Show. “You starting to look like the kid that’s going to grab the ball and say, ‘I’m going home. I can’t play. We’re outta here. I’m leaving the park, it’s my ball.’
“Come on, Pat,” Green urged.
Beverley garnered attention in the final minutes of the Bucks’ season-ending 120–98 defeat against the Indiana Pacers for chucking a basketball at a fan behind Milwaukee’s bench—twice.
“It opens up an entirely different can of worms,” Green said of Beverley’s basketball toss. “[NBA commissioner] Adam [Silver] going to have a problem on his hands with this one. It’s about as close as you can get to going in the stands. That is forbidden for us.”
Adding to the drama, Beverley further complicated matters in the Bucks’ locker room. He declined to respond to a reporter’s inquiry because she hadn’t subscribed to his podcast, and requested her to leave the gathering around his locker.
“I personally take a completely different approach because I deeply appreciate the NBA’s support for podcasts,” Green remarked.
Beverley will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Should the 35-year-old secure a new NBA destination in the coming months, he’s likely to face a suspension at the start of the season for his actions on Thursday.
