The phenomenon widely known as the “Drake Curse” seems to be maintaining its notorious streak of bad luck.
Drake, the famed rapper from Toronto, has a penchant for placing hefty bets on various sporting events. Over time, he has gained a somewhat comical reputation for his consistent ability to choose the losing side. This unfortunate trend persisted into the current month.
On June 6, Drake, who is 37 years old, took to Instagram to share two of his recent betting slips, each valued at a staggering $500,000. His first bet was placed on the Dallas Mavericks to clinch the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics. His second wager was on the Edmonton Oilers to emerge victorious over the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.
Regrettably for Drake, both of these substantial bets quickly disintegrated. Within just a week, the outcomes had dashed any hopes he might have held.

The Mavericks and Oilers each faced a daunting 0-3 deficit at the outset of their respective series.
The Mavericks were ultimately defeated in five games, failing to overcome the Celtics’ dominance.
Meanwhile, the Oilers staged a valiant comeback from their initial 0-3 slump to push the series to a decisive Game 7. However, their efforts were not enough as they were narrowly defeated by the Panthers in a tense 2-1 match.
Drake suggested in his Instagram post that his bets were influenced by a sense of loyalty. Being Canadian, he supported Edmonton as a gesture of national pride.
Additionally, having recently invested in a $15 million ranch in Texas, which he now considers his home, he felt compelled to back the Dallas team as well.
While loyalty is certainly an admirable trait, it might not be the wisest guiding principle when it comes to placing bets of such magnitude, especially in the unpredictable realm of sports.
