Bronny James has been at the center of considerable media attention as the NBA Draft approaches, sparking debate over whether the focus on him has been excessive.
ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins, a former teammate of LeBron James, expressed concerns about the disproportionate attention Bronny is receiving. “We have to stop as the media and everybody else shining a light on Bronny because there are other players that are deserving of our attention,” Perkins remarked this week. He pointed out that many draft prospects who are likely to be selected in the early rounds are being overlooked, while Bronny is discussed as a potential late second-round pick, or possibly undrafted.
Draft analyst Sam Vecenie of The Athletic responded to Perkins, acknowledging the validity of his point but also highlighting the public’s significant interest in Bronny. “I agree with Kendrick Perkins here. However, you would be stunned by how much more attention stories about Bronny generate compared to other players in this draft,” Vecenie noted on X/Twitter. “It’s clear that people outside of the NBA/draft enthusiasts really care about his story.”

Bronny, who had a respectable performance at the recent NBA Draft Combine, still appears to be a second-round selection at best.
Despite the benefits of his father’s fame, Bronny pointed out the challenges that come with it. “It’s tough. A lot of criticism gets thrown my way,” he shared. “I have to deal with it. They don’t know what I’ve been through. I just try to make the best of the opportunities that are given to me.”
