Tua Tagovailoa attended the Miami Dolphins’ mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, signaling that he isn’t planning a holdout over his contract.
However, he did address his contract situation during a post-practice interview.
When asked about his awareness of other quarterbacks’ contracts and his own negotiations, Tagovailoa acknowledged his awareness of the market rates. “I’m not blind to the fact that people in my position are getting significant contracts,” he said. “Am I worried? Not exactly, but we’ve had plenty of discussions aimed at progressing things to a point where both sides are satisfied.”

Specifically questioned about Jared Goff’s recent contract with the Detroit Lions, which averages $53 million annually, Tagovailoa remarked, “The market is the market. Without it, none of these figures would matter—it would all depend on the organization. So, that’s how it stands.”
As he approaches the final year of his rookie deal with a scheduled salary of $23.1 million, Tagovailoa’s performance, including leading the NFL with 4,624 passing yards last season under coach Mike McDaniel, aligns him with top-tier quarterbacks.
With peers like Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and others commanding over $50 million annually, it’s unlikely he’ll settle for less, given the current quarterback market dynamics.
Additionally, the Dolphins recently extended receiver Jaylen Waddle’s contract, indicating ongoing negotiations with other key players seeking new deals.
