Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler found himself in serious legal trouble on Thursday night in Franklin, Tennessee, following a series of alarming events that led to his arrest. The former Chicago Bears quarterback was taken into custody on charges of driving under the influence (DUI), along with several other infractions.
According to TMZ, Cutler faced charges for failure to exercise due care, violation of the implied consent law, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
However, the situation took a darker turn with new details emerging from Page Six, revealing that Cutler allegedly attempted to flee the scene of a car accident and even tried to bribe the other driver to avoid police involvement.
According to the report, Cutler rear-ended another vehicle in downtown Franklin on Thursday night. In an attempt to avoid legal consequences, he reportedly offered the other driver $2,000 to not involve the police. The Franklin Police Department, in a statement to Page Six, confirmed that officers were dispatched to the scene after the accident, and upon arrival, they noted several troubling signs indicating Cutler had been drinking.
Officers on the scene reported that Cutler’s eyes appeared “bloodshot,” his speech was slurred, and there was a noticeable “strong odor of alcohol” on him. The police report further described Cutler as “staggering, swaying, and heavy-footed while walking,” with his words “thick-tongued, slurred, and mumbled.”

When questioned about his alcohol consumption that night, Cutler initially denied having had anything to drink, responding with a simple “None.” However, after further questioning, he admitted he had consumed “a little bit” of alcohol, according to the report.
The former “Very Cavallari” reality TV star reportedly refused to participate in field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken to a local hospital for a blood test to determine his blood alcohol level. Despite evidence of the accident, including a “small dent in the rear” of the other vehicle involved, Cutler also allegedly denied that he had been in any sort of collision.
During a search of Cutler’s truck, officers discovered two firearms, including a loaded pistol, further complicating his legal situation.
Cutler was released on a $5,000 bond following his arrest. The troubling incident adds to his post-NFL notoriety, casting a shadow over the former Pro Bowl quarterback’s public image.
With these details now surfacing, Cutler’s legal woes appear far from over, as he faces potentially serious consequences stemming from the charges.
