Stephen A. Smith is facing criticism on social media after being exposed for not knowing the current roster of the New York Knicks, despite claiming to be a die-hard fan of the team.
As the host of “First Take” and a self-proclaimed lifelong Knicks supporter, Smith has often expressed his passion for the team, even breaking down on live television following news of Julius Randle’s season-ending surgery last week.
However, recent comments by Smith on “The Stephen A Smith Show” suggest otherwise, casting doubt on his knowledge of the Knicks’ lineup. Following the Knicks’ victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, Smith mentioned players like Grimes and Hartenstein, unaware that Grimes had been traded to the Detroit Pistons and that Hartenstein has been a starter for months, not a reserve.

Fans have taken to social media to criticize Smith, with some calling for him to lose his MVP vote due to his apparent lack of knowledge about his own team.
“Example 2 thousand of Stephen A Smith knowing nothing about the New York Knicks,” one user wrote, labeling him as an “all-time fake fan.”
Another user questioned the credibility of sports commentators who may not even watch basketball, let alone know the details of their favorite team.
Stephen A. took to social media to explain himself:
This isn’t the first time Smith has faced accusations of being disingenuous. He was recently called out by Jason Whitlock for allegedly lying about his college basketball career, a claim Smith has yet to effectively rebut despite launching into a heated tirade against Whitlock.
