Tuesday’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix was postponed for nearly two hours due to an unusual cause: a swarm of bees.
The bees congregated on part of the safety netting behind home plate, posing a potential hazard to spectators. This prompted the grounds crew to intervene and delay the start of the game while they addressed the situation.
The interruption lasted about an hour and a half, during which fans could have watched the 2007 animated film “Bee Movie” to pass the time.

To resolve the issue, the Diamondbacks called in local bee specialist Matt Hilton. As Hilton began his work, the stadium staff aptly played Bonnie Tyler’s 1984 anthem “Holding Out For A Hero.”
The evening turned memorable, particularly for Hilton, who not only resolved the bee problem but also became a crowd favorite. He received MVP chants and had the honor of throwing the first pitch of the game.
With his confident handling of the situation and his interaction with the crowd, the father of four proved he was more than ready for his moment in the spotlight.
This bee delay is one event that Hilton—and the fans at Chase Field—will likely remember for a long time.
