The Detroit Lions had scheduled a grand unveiling for their new uniforms on Thursday night, but it seems their plans were preempted by an unexpected leak.
Early Thursday morning, images began circulating online showing what could be the Lions’ updated jerseys, featuring white and black options with blue lettering, along with their classic Honolulu blue jerseys adorned with white numerals and names.
Lions beat reporter Justin Rogers shed some light on the situation, suggesting a breakdown in control among corporate partners. “The tough thing about holding your new uniforms for an unveiling is keeping all the third-party corporate partners in line with the launch, when there’s so little oversight with those. Fanatics ad leaked through USA Today Network, appearing to show Lions’ new look jerseys,” he explained.

Despite the leak, the Lions responded with good humor. They released a video of defensive tackle Alim McNeill, wearing the new blue jersey, humorously addressing the leak. “Whoever leaked the uniform video, we appreciate it,” McNeill quipped. “We appreciate you ruining all the hard work we put in. Video coming soon.”
Additionally, the Lions shared a brief clip of quarterback Jared Goff holding a jersey, playfully suggesting he might leak it to Twitter himself. They captioned the post, “Inside job?” tagging Goff, who has yet to respond to the playful accusation.
This incident has fueled speculation among some that the leak might have been a deliberate publicity move by the Lions, although the premature exposure somewhat overshadowed their planned event.
Nonetheless, the official unveiling is set to proceed at Ford Field at 7 p.m., with an entrance fee of $10 for season-ticket members, maintaining some anticipation for the formal presentation of the new uniforms.
