Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is facing increased scrutiny for his last-minute absence from the game against the Denver Nuggets, and the optics are not improving.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Embiid was added to the injury report just 15 minutes before tipoff, despite suffering a minor knee injury in the previous game.
Notably, he was not listed on the injury report the day before or throughout the game day.
“He wasn’t on the team’s injury report the day before the game. He wasn’t on the injury report all day. He didn’t enter the injury report, I’m told, until 15 minutes before tipoff. … The league will look into these types of situations,” said Shams on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back.”

Charania mentioned that the NBA is likely to investigate this situation, as withholding injury information could provide a competitive advantage and goes against the league’s protocols.
Embiid’s absence disappointed fans and may have impacted the game strategy for the Nuggets.
