Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is reportedly struggling with mental challenges on the field, which many believe are tied to the ongoing sexual assault allegations that continue to shadow his career. Watson has been involved in numerous legal battles over the last three seasons, including settling with 20 women over sexual misconduct lawsuits, which resulted in an 11-game suspension during the 2022 NFL season.
However, the legal troubles are far from over. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Watson is being sued again, this time for over $1 million by a new accuser who alleges he sexually assaulted her in Texas four years ago. Despite these fresh accusations, Watson continues to play for the Browns, but some believe the weight of his off-field controversies is impacting his performance on the gridiron.
NFL Hall of Famer and former quarterback Warren Moon expressed concern over Watson’s mental state, suggesting that the constant legal battles may be affecting his ability to focus during games. “He’s still dealing with a lot of that crap that he dealt with a couple of years ago with the lawsuits,” Moon told TMZ. “And now, all of a sudden, another lawsuit comes up.”
Moon went on to say that just as it seemed Watson was beginning to find his rhythm again, another legal issue reared its head. “It seems like every time he goes out on the field he’s playing with a heavy mind, and he’s not able to focus on the game,” Moon added. “He’s probably trying a little bit too hard. He’s pressing. And he’s just not able to play the way he’s capable of playing.”

The Browns started the season 1-1, having lost to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 but bouncing back with a victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. This weekend, they face the New York Giants, and while they are favored to win, all eyes will be on Watson to see if he can deliver under the growing scrutiny.
In the wake of the latest allegations, Watson has once again denied any wrongdoing. His attorney, Rusty Hardin, issued a statement strongly refuting the claims. “Deshaun strongly denies the allegations in the Jane Doe lawsuit filed Monday,” Hardin said. “We have asked him not to comment further while this matter works its way through the courts, but we are comfortable he will ultimately be vindicated.”
Hardin emphasized that Watson’s legal team is prepared to defend him in court, but they are not interested in litigating the case through the media. “We would ask that people be patient while the legal process runs its course,” Hardin added. “In the meantime, Deshaun is going to focus his energy and concentration on football.”
According to the lawsuit, the new accuser claims that during a massage session, Watson stripped naked and “demanded” the woman massage his buttocks before allegedly grabbing her and committing further acts of sexual assault. These allegations stem from his time with the Houston Texans, before his trade to the Browns.
When asked if the new lawsuit would serve as a distraction to his performance on the field, Watson remained focused on his responsibilities as the team’s starting quarterback. “I need to focus on football,” he told reporters. “The main thing is keeping the main thing the main thing.”
Watson’s future, both on and off the field, remains uncertain as the legal battles continue to unfold.
While he tries to maintain focus on leading the Browns through the season, the ongoing allegations and public scrutiny cast a shadow over his career trajectory, and many are left wondering how it will all impact his ability to perform at the level he once did.
