The former University of Memphis point guard took an unconventional path when it came to the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Instead of personally taking the exam, he arranged for a friend to sit in for him, sweating through the test under Rose’s identity.
The SAT results were subsequently sent to the NCAA clearinghouse, and Rose’s qualifying score led to his admission to the University of Memphis. As a gifted freshman, he played a pivotal role in leading the Tigers basketball team to an impressive 38-win season and an appearance in the national championship game.
Rose went on to achieve great success in the NBA.
Despite his accomplishments, he has maintained a reputation as one of the most introverted superstars of the past 25 years.
Thus, it shouldn’t be surprising that a video recently emerged showing Rose at a Drake concert in Glendale, AZ, seemingly unimpressed by the spectacle as he engrossed himself in a game of chess on his phone. The video, captured by his wife, Alaina Rose, was humorously captioned, “When I make my husband come outside,” accompanied by a series of crying emojis.
Notably, Rose used chess as a metaphor in an emotional social media post in 2022. He addressed the use of the word “vintage” to describe his recent performance, reflecting on his journey.
After appearing in only 27 games last season, Rose made a move to join the Grizzlies. He is set to return this season to the city where he initially rose to prominence in college.
With Ja Morant sidelined due to an extension, Rose could find himself playing a significant early-season role for the team.
