Derek Jeter, renowned for his Hall of Fame career with the Yankees, was once considered one of the world’s most eligible bachelors. However, during his active playing days, Jeter revealed on “Calm Down with Erin and Charissa” that he wasn’t keen on starting a family, citing his intense focus on his baseball career and acknowledging that he was “selfish” at the time.
Jeter admitted that, although he could have had children during his playing career, his dedication to baseball took precedence, and he considered himself too self-absorbed. He emphasized that his career consumed him entirely during that period.
“I could have had kids during my career. I just, I couldn’t have done it (while playing). I was way, way, way too selfish. It was all about my career,” Jeter said.
The former Yankee captain explained that his decision was influenced by the admirable example set by his own parents, who were always there for him, and he didn’t want to be absent for extended periods if he became a parent.

However, life took a different turn for Jeter after retirement. In 2016, he married Hannah Davis, and they now have four children, including a son born in May of the current year. With his playing days behind him, Jeter can now enjoy spending quality time with his family, a luxury that would have been challenging during his peak years with the Yankees. In retrospect, Jeter seems content with the choices he made, enjoying a fulfilling family life alongside his successful baseball career.
