Earlier this month, Shelomi Sanders, daughter of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders, entered the transfer portal, sparking discussions about her decision.
Recently, Deion Sanders shared his thoughts on the matter with DNVR Sports, expressing his reservations not about her decision to leave the Colorado women’s basketball team, but about the manner in which she did it.
Deion explained that Shelomi entered the transfer portal without securing a new team first, which he thought was unwise. “Which was stupid,” Sanders remarked, as reported by On3. “You get a team. You gotta get a team before you get in the portal. You know, that’s what I would advise. (And everyone says) ‘oh it’s illegal.’ C’mon man. Everybody knows somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody. You kind of want them to do something and she has been truly advised.”
Shelomi has just completed her first full season with the Buffaloes, participating in only five games.
As Shelomi plans her departure from Colorado and with Deion’s son Shedeur expected to go pro in 2025, speculation has arisen about whether Coach Prime might also leave Colorado. Deion addressed these rumors directly, affirming his commitment to stay. “So I’ve been dictating where my kids go, not them dictating where I go. I’m happy, I’m cool, I’m sound in Boulder,” he asserted. “I love it 100% and we’re going to build a monument.”
Deion Sanders is preparing for his second season as head coach of the Colorado football team, following a 4-8 record last season.
