Deion Sanders is set to make his debut as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes in a bowl game this Saturday night, marking a significant milestone in his coaching career. After a tough first season in Boulder where the team finished with a 4-8 record, Sanders has successfully turned the program around this fall, enabling the Buffaloes to achieve a commendable 9-3 record.
This impressive performance is the best regular season result for Colorado in eight years, earning them a coveted spot in the Alamo Bowl. In an interesting scheduling twist, they will face off against BYU, another member of the Big 12 conference.
As the team arrived in San Antonio for the bowl game, Sanders took the opportunity to address his players in a recent “Coach Prime Sights and Sounds” video. In typical fashion, he laid down some ground rules aimed at instilling discipline and professionalism among his squad.
One of the key focuses of his address was the importance of maintaining a polished appearance throughout the week leading up to the game. He made it clear that he has no tolerance for anything that could tarnish the reputation of the team or the university.

“You embarrass us and this university, you will not get a second chance to do it this week,” Sanders asserted. “We came here to win and not just to compete. We came to dominate, not merely to compete.” His words underscored a sense of urgency and high expectations for his team as they prepare for this critical matchup.
Sanders also delivered a pointed warning regarding substance use, particularly concerning smoking.
He conveyed that any reports or scents of smoking would have severe consequences. “Last but not least, if I smell smoke on any floor, or somebody tells me you’re smoking on that floor, that will be your last puff,” he cautioned.
He further emphasized, “I’m just trying to tell you – it will be your last puff. I hope it was good because that’s gonna be your last one. I promise you, if I smell smoke on your clothes at practice in the morning, at breakfast, or anywhere else, that’s gonna be your last time.”
His strong stance on maintaining discipline is indicative of Sanders’ approach to building a winning culture. As kickoff approaches, fans will be hoping that all the Buffaloes heed Deion’s words and stay focused.
The Alamo Bowl is among eight exciting bowl games taking place this Saturday.
The showdown between Colorado and BYU is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET, and it will serve as a pivotal moment for the team, especially as it will be the last time fans get to see standout players Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter in Colorado uniforms, as both are expected to pursue careers in the NFL following this season.
With so much on the line, both for the players and the program, there is much anticipation surrounding this matchup.
