Despite not putting up impressive numbers on the stat sheet, Brock Purdy played a crucial role in guiding the San Francisco 49ers to victory on Saturday night, securing a spot in the NFC Championship game.
Purdy orchestrated a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter, leading to a decisive touchdown by Christian McCaffrey that sealed the win over the Green Bay Packers.
However, Purdy faced criticism for his performance, particularly from ESPN’s Ryan Clark, who questioned Purdy’s standing compared to established elite quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. In response to Clark’s comments, 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel took to social media to defend his teammate.

Samuel posted a clip of Clark on his Instagram story, expressing confusion about the excessive criticism Purdy has received. Samuel highlighted Purdy’s achievements, stating, “Never seen so much hate for a QB that lead the league in every category. Y’all folks be buggin fr fr. That tape don’t tell no lies.”
The tape indeed reflected Purdy’s contributions on Sunday, as he played a pivotal role in securing the 49ers’ place in the NFC title game for the third consecutive year, marking the second time with him as the starting quarterback.
Purdy and the 49ers now aim for success in the upcoming matchup against the Detroit Lions, hoping that the third time proves to be the charm.
