Deebo Samuel takes a firm stance when it comes to defending Brock Purdy. The standout wide receiver for the 49ers swiftly responded on Wednesday to criticisms from former NFL MVP Cam Newton and current Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons, both of whom had voiced negative opinions about Purdy during San Francisco’s Christmas night defeat.
Addressing Newton directly on his weekly “Up & Adams Show” appearance, Samuel remarked, “First of all, Cam Newton, stop texting my phone, bro. You were a fan like two weeks ago. That’s pretty crazy. You wanted me on your podcast after talking about my quarterback, which is amusing to me.”

Samuel then turned his attention to Micah Parsons, reminding him of a decisive victory against the Cowboys with a score of 42-10. “I don’t understand why he’s so bothered about what we have going on over here or whatever the case may be,” Samuel added.
Earlier in the month, Newton had labeled Purdy a “game manager” rather than a “difference maker,” creating ripples in NFL discussions. During Monday’s game, arguably one of Purdy’s toughest outings, where he threw a career-high four interceptions in a 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Newton subtly dissed Purdy on social media.
Deebo’s vocal support for his quarterback is noteworthy, especially considering Purdy’s consistent success as the starting QB for the 49ers.
