South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley publicly expressed her admiration for President Biden following his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election. Biden announced on Sunday that he would not be seeking re-election and subsequently endorsed Harris in a post on X.
Staley, whose team received congratulations from Harris after winning the national championship in 2024, took to X to commend Biden’s decision. “Thank you, @POTUS @JoeBiden! Job well done! Your historical endorsement of @VP @KamalaHarris is saluted!” Staley wrote.
However, Staley’s support for Biden had shown signs of waning since the contentious June 27 debate with former President Trump.

Earlier this month, she attended an event with former President Barack Obama and posted on X, calling him “the coolest man on earth.” She also hinted at her desire to see another Obama in office. “Thank you for your inspiration and leadership still. Now please let us borrow @MichelleObama for just 4 short years! First Gentleman is a good look for you!” she posted, expressing her hope for Michelle Obama to run for president.
Staley has been a vocal supporter of Democratic policies and ideologies, including the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s and girls’ sports.
During the March Madness tournament, she stated, “I’m of the opinion of, if you’re a woman, you should play. If you consider yourself a woman, and you want to play sports or vice versa, you should be able to play. That’s my opinion.”
When asked specifically whether she thought transgender women should be able to participate in women’s college basketball, Staley responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes.”
As the political landscape shifts with Biden’s endorsement of Harris, Staley’s continued advocacy for inclusion and her support for Democratic values remain steadfast. Her public statements reflect a broader conversation about leadership and representation in America.
