Perhaps David Carr was onto something?
The former No. 1 NFL Draft pick gained attention recently when he proposed benching star quarterback Jalen Hurts in favor of Marcus Mariota against the Dallas Cowboys.
Now, Carr is taking a victory lap as Hurts went just 18-of-27 for 197 yards with no touchdowns in a 33-13 loss on Sunday night. Hurts also had a crucial fumble in the first half that halted a Philadelphia drive.
Carr’s initial suggestion appeared absurd, stating, “Clearly, Jalen isn’t comfortable reading through a defense in a drop-back pass scenario. Some would say he’s not even good at it. And I think that when you look at this team, you have to have a serious conversation if you’re Philly, and you have to really say, ‘Is it better for us to play Marcus Mariota right now.'”
When given the chance to backtrack, Carr chose to double down, asserting, “Why play Marcus? I don’t know, to give Jalen a chance to rest, to sit. You can’t win with a backup quarterback? You can’t win with [Cincinnati Bengals quarterback] Jake Browning? With [Indianapolis Colts quarterback] Gardner Minshew? Gardner did it on this team, Philly, last season when Jalen sat, right? He’s doing it right now in Indy. You can definitely do it with Marcus, who can run the football. You can give Marcus 25 carries on Sunday, 25. Go at it, create one and ones on the outside, I think that would be fantastic. If that’s the case and Jalen has to sit, great. And if he’s healthy, fully rested into the playoffs, they have a chance to win the Super Bowl.”

As it turns out, there may have been some merit to his point.
“Hey Philly, y’all want to talk about it,” he tweeted on Sunday night after the game had ended.
Unsurprisingly, Eagles fans did not respond very kindly, most reminding Carr of his short and poor NFL career. However, it doesn’t change the fact that he got the last laugh this time around. Some analysts seem to take too much pleasure in trolling fanbases following a tough loss.
