Packers tackle David Bakhtiari, just like millions of other football fans, tuned in to watch the Monday night game between the Bills and the Jets. As a former teammate of Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Bakhtiari had some thoughts to share regarding Rodgers’s ankle injury.
Taking to social media, Bakhtiari expressed his frustration, saying, “Congratulations, @nfl. How many more players must suffer injuries on ARTIFICIAL TURF??! It seems like you prioritize soccer players’ well-being over ours. You’re planning to replace all artificial turf for the upcoming World Cup, so clearly, it’s possible. I’ve had enough of this. Let’s do better!”
Bakhtiari’s concern revolves around the NFL’s willingness to replace synthetic turf with natural grass (a hybrid version) in certain stadiums, a move prompted by FIFA’s insistence on real grass for its events.
Artificial turf can contribute to lower leg injuries when a player’s foot becomes trapped on the surface, leading to potentially harmful forces acting on the body.
The NFL’s decision, however, often hinges on financial considerations, with some team owners unwilling to invest in the best playing surfaces, despite the potential benefits of safeguarding their valuable player assets.
