Shohei Ohtani surprised many, including Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, by announcing his marriage on social media Thursday. Roberts admitted neither he nor the Dodgers had sent Ohtani and his new spouse a wedding gift yet due to the unexpected revelation.
Expressing his happiness for Ohtani and his bride, Roberts confessed to being caught off guard by the news and indicated that a gift would be on its way soon.
Ohtani, while confirming his marriage on Thursday, remained vague about the exact timing of the ceremony, only mentioning that his wife is a Japanese woman he has known for three or four years.

“I’m very happy for him and his bride,” Roberts said. “As far as wedding gifts, we got surprised and didn’t have much time to think about it. I’m sure it’s en route,” via ESPN.
During his free agency, Ohtani’s wife showed unwavering support as he received significant offers from various teams before ultimately signing a historic 10-year, $700 million deal with the Dodgers. Ohtani praised her understanding of his profession and her willingness to follow him wherever he chose to play.
Now married and preparing for his debut season with the Dodgers, Ohtani aims to replicate his outstanding performance from the previous year, where he secured the MVP title with impressive statistics: a batting average of .304, 44 home runs, and 95 RBIs.
