Former Las Vegas Raiders star Damon Arnette is challenging gun and drug allegations after his arrest on gun and meth charges in Texas last month.
In a statement to TMZ, Arnette’s attorneys, Jason Lampert and Thomas Wynne, asserted their client’s innocence, claiming that Arnette should never have been arrested on these charges. The attorneys explained that at the time of the arrest, Arnette was unable to provide law enforcement with his prescription for a lawful medication.
They emphasized that the arrest was based on Arnette’s inability to prove that the medication was prescribed. Had he been able to do so, they argued, there would have been no grounds for arrest regarding either the controlled substance or the firearms.

“Our client, at the time of the stop, was unable to provide law enforcement with his prescription for a lawful medication,” Jason Lampert and Thomas Wynne said. “The arrest was predicated on Mr. Arnette being unable to prove the medication was prescribed, had he been able to do so at the time of the stop, there would have been no arrest for either the controlled substance or the firearms.”
Arnette, who was released by the Raiders in 2021 following a troubling video showing him threatening someone with weapons, received a community sentence in May of the following year for an incident involving brandishing a firearm during a dispute with Las Vegas casino valets.
Now, less than a year later, Arnette finds himself in legal trouble again after being found in possession of a gun and methamphetamine in Richardson, Texas, on January 6. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the details of the arrest, although further specifics are currently unavailable.
Arnette’s legal team maintains that reports of his arrest for possession of meth and firearms are inaccurate. They reiterated that the arrest stemmed from Arnette’s inability to provide proof of his prescribed medication at the time of the stop.
Originally drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Arnette’s professional career has been marred by off-field issues, including lawsuits and legal troubles. Despite expressing a desire to return to the NFL, Arnette faces significant challenges in light of his recent legal woes.
