Once again, Mike McCarthy has [checks notes] secured his position. According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday, the Dallas Cowboys have opted to keep McCarthy as their head coach for the upcoming 2024 season.
McCarthy, a former Super Bowl champion head coach, took the reins of the Cowboys in 2020 and is now slated to fulfill the remaining year of his contract with the team.
Despite an impressive 12-5 record in each of the last three consecutive seasons, McCarthy has been unable to propel the Cowboys beyond postseason challenges.

The recent playoff defeat to the underdog Green Bay Packers had many anticipating McCarthy’s departure.
However, strong support within the Cowboys’ locker room may have played a pivotal role in saving McCarthy from termination. Similar to his predecessor Jason Garrett, McCarthy is now set to lead the team in the final year of his contract, albeit possibly in a lame-duck capacity.
