Apparently, Dak Prescott wasn’t a fan of Tony Romo, as evidenced by an old tweet that has resurfaced from 2012 when the Dallas Cowboys quarterback was just 19 years old.
The tweet, unearthed by Cowboys reporter David Helman of FOX Sports, was posted by Prescott after Dallas lost a crucial Week 17 contest against Washington with the NFC East division on the line:
Helman shared the tweet following Prescott’s recent comments about dealing with fan backlash on social media.
The timing of Prescott’s old tweet adds a layer of awkwardness since he was teammates with Romo during his rookie season in 2016. Romo suffered a back injury in preseason play, leading to Prescott, a fourth-round pick, taking over as the quarterback.
Despite the initial awkwardness, Prescott had a stellar rookie year, guiding Dallas to 13 wins and the NFC’s top seed. However, they were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round. Romo, in his 11th season as Dallas’ starter, handled losing his starting job with grace.
Although Dallas was expected to trade Romo in the 2017 offseason, he was eventually released from his contract. Romo retired and transitioned to the CBS broadcast booth, working alongside legendary commentator Jim Nantz.

In his first seven seasons, Prescott led the Cowboys to the postseason four times (2016, 2018, 2021, and 2022). Currently, the Cowboys, with a 7-3 record, are set to host the Washington Commanders on Thursday night.
Dak Prescott and Tony Romo will always be linked, but if Prescott can’t secure a championship, he may be remembered similarly to Romo—both seen as individuals who couldn’t win the big game.
