Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently sparked concerns about his health when he was seen wearing a walking boot while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas.
Naturally, this led to questions about the soon-to-be 31-year-old’s condition following mandatory minicamp.
Prescott addressed these concerns during his annual youth football camp in Southlake, Texas on Tuesday, assuring fans and reporters that there was no cause for alarm.
“Yeah, I’m great,” Prescott said regarding his health, as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Honestly, I’m getting older. Same ankle, right? That I snapped and had a nasty surgery on four years ago. So yeah, couple of hard days of training, you get a little sore and you’re going on a fishing trip and want to protect it and make sure that things don’t get worse. So literally it’s absolutely nothing. That’s why I said people are reaching and trying to make things what they aren’t. I’m getting older and have to take care of my body. Be smart and if I can take precautions and lessen something by putting on a boot, I’m gonna do it. So sorry it caused such a whirlwind,” Prescott added with a smile.

This year is particularly significant for Prescott and the Cowboys. The veteran quarterback is entering the final season of his current contract and is poised to become a free agent next offseason if an extension isn’t reached.
As of now, it appears that the Cowboys’ front office is willing to let Prescott play out the final year of his deal. This decision carries the inherent risk of potentially losing him to a quarterback-needy team in free agency next spring.
In the 2022 season, Prescott’s eighth with the Cowboys, he showcased his skills by completing 69.5% of his passes for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns, with only nine interceptions.
Despite his impressive individual performance, the team’s goal of contending for a Super Bowl title fell short as they were eliminated in the NFC wild card round by the Green Bay Packers.
As Prescott prepares for the upcoming season, he remains focused on maintaining his health and leading the Cowboys to success.
His commitment to taking care of his body, even if it means wearing a walking boot as a precaution, underscores his dedication to the team’s future.
Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how the situation unfolds and whether the Cowboys can secure Prescott’s future with the team.
