How about them Cowboys?
The Dallas Cowboys have faced criticism for their quiet approach to the initial wave of free agency, having lost several starters while adding only a few players.
Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ vice president, spoke on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas today, addressing concerns about the team’s offseason financial strategy. He explained that the Cowboys consistently spend to the limit of the salary cap each year.
“We spend max, max money year in and year out. All 32 teams can only spend the same amount of money over a five-year stretch. We max out our salary cap every year. We have a good roster, and part of maintaining that is planning to re-sign our own key players,” Jones said. “It doesn’t mean it happens overnight. But, for example, when you’re looking to sign players like Dak, Micah, and CeeDee, you have to hold money back to have a realistic chance of signing those guys.”

While Jones provided a rationale for the conservative spending, this explanation may not satisfy all Cowboys fans. Many might argue that other NFL teams manage to re-sign their star players and still make significant acquisitions in free agency.
The question remains whether the Cowboys’ spending approach is a result of cap mismanagement or a strategic decision aimed at long-term stability and retention of key players.
