When Mazi Smith transitioned from Michigan football to the Dallas Cowboys as their first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, it appears he left more than just his collegiate career behind. Reports surfaced of an intriguing discovery made by Vincent Broadway, who acquired Smith’s Ann Arbor storage unit through auction.
Broadway, sharing his find on TikTok, didn’t explicitly name Smith but hinted at the former Michigan player who was drafted in the first round. Given Smith’s selection, it’s plausible that the unit belonged to him. Inside, Broadway uncovered a trove of items including a gun safe, a Legos collection, Wolverines playbooks, and a plethora of shoes and apparel.
Among the most notable findings were exclusive Michigan Jordan cleats, valued at hundreds of dollars each, and even high-end items like Travis Scott Jordan 1s and Michigan Jordan Lows worth thousands. Broadway estimates the shoe collection alone to be valued at $20,000.
Furthermore, Smith’s passion for Legos was evident as Broadway discovered boxes of the toy blocks stored in the unit, alongside luxury items like a Louis Vuitton toiletry bag valued at $1,000.
Memorabilia from Smith’s Michigan days, including playbooks and game-worn cleats, were also unearthed, providing a glimpse into his collegiate career under the tutelage of John Harbaugh. They also found a gun safe in the storage locker.

While the circumstances leading to the auction remain unclear, Smith’s transition to the NFL didn’t come without controversy. He faced legal trouble in 2022 when Ann Arbor police discovered a concealed weapon during a routine traffic stop, resulting in a felony charge. Smith later pled guilty to a lesser offense, citing his intent to obtain a concealed-weapon permit.
As Smith continues his NFL journey with the Cowboys, this unexpected revelation sheds light on the complexities of his past and the treasures left behind in his collegiate chapter.
