Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has publicly apologized to cheerleader Michelle Siemienowski after an errant kickoff struck her in the back of the head during Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium.
The incident occurred during the Cowboys’ regular-season finale. After successfully making a 34-yard field goal, Aubrey returned to the field for a kickoff, but the ball veered off course and struck Siemienowski, a member of the iconic “America’s Sweethearts” cheer squad.
The Incident
Siemienowski was performing with her back to the field and didn’t see the ball coming. The impact caused her to fall to the ground, immediately halting the cheerleaders’ routine as teammates rushed to check on her.
Despite the unexpected mishap, Siemienowski later confirmed she was unhurt and took the incident in stride.
Aubrey’s Apology
Following the game, Aubrey went out of his way to make amends. Unable to locate Siemienowski on the field, he left her a heartfelt note on the team roster sheet.
“Michelle, so sorry about hitting you on KO! Hope you are doing well! Love watching y’all!” Aubrey wrote.
Siemienowski shared a picture of Aubrey’s handwritten apology on her social media account, adding her own reflections on the incident.
“This past 24 hours has been a whirlwind! I got a ton of messages, and I wanted to thank you all for checking in and for your kind words! I am all okay, so no need to worry!” she wrote.
She also expressed gratitude for Aubrey’s kind gesture, noting that although he wanted to find her on the field to apologize in person, she had been moving around during the game.
“He was so kind to write me a note anyways! No hard feelings here! And now I have a souvenir for my last game of my rookie season!”

“Congrats on breaking a franchise record!” she added.
A Lighthearted End to a Memorable Season
What could have been an awkward or upsetting moment turned into a feel-good story, thanks to Aubrey’s thoughtful apology and Siemienowski’s gracious response. For the rookie cheerleader, it became a unique and memorable way to cap off her first season with the Cowboys.
As for Aubrey, the record-breaking kicker continues to show why he’s a fan favorite—not just for his accuracy on the field, but for his class and humility off it.
