Is Dak Prescott really in the Cowboys future plans?
Conflicting reports emerged on Tuesday regarding Dak Prescott’s contract status and future with the Dallas Cowboys.
CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson indicated that despite Prescott entering the final year of his current deal, the Cowboys are committed to securing him long-term. She tweeted, “Regarding the #Cowboys and Dak Prescott, I’m told the team does intend to work out a contract for their 3x-Pro Bowl quarterback and also has not closed off potential to consummate a deal for him this year.”

The confusion arose when Cowboys owner Jerry Jones remarked that the team has “our contract, locked and loaded for this year.” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport interpreted this statement as suggesting the possibility of Prescott testing free agency in 2025.
Rapoport stated, “The #Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott have a mutual understanding of his contract situation, sources say, with no offers from Dallas despite him being in a contract year.”
However, the Cowboys later issued an official response clarifying the situation. According to Nick Harris of the team’s website, “Per the team, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have had extension discussions but it is ‘not a pressurized situation for either at this point.’ The door remains open for a deal to get done this offseason or during the 2024 season, but there is no urgency as of now.”
Prescott currently carries a cap hit of over $55 million for the 2024 season.
