This is one inventive gift.
When Matt and Jessica Grime planned their wedding in Lake Tahoe, they decided to take a unique approach to showing appreciation to their guests. Instead of traditional favors, they tapped into their shared love for the San Francisco 49ers.
The couple purchased 180 $2 sports bets for the NFL team to win the 2024 Super Bowl and gave one to each guest, accompanied by a note thanking them for joining in their celebration. The note read, “You bet on us, so we placed a bet for you. We hope you get as lucky as us!” via People.com.
Little did they know at the time of their September 2023 nuptials in Stateline, Nevada, that the 49ers would make it to the big game. Now, facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs for the championship title, the bets have become even more meaningful.
Jessica, an event planner and owner of SLT Events, explains that the unconventional favors perfectly combined their love for their team with the gambling scene in Lake Tahoe. The odds of the bets were +850 at the time of purchase, meaning each guest stands to win about $19 if the 49ers emerge victorious.

“Our guests were very surprised!” Jessica shares. “Since my family and friends mostly traveled from the Bay Area, they are all diehard 49er fans, so they were stoked.”
Both Jessica and Matt have been 49ers superfans since birth. Matt’s connection to the team runs deep, with his father owning a bar in South Lake Tahoe frequented by 49ers players and coaches. He even posed for a photo with NFL legend Dwight Clark at the age of 5.
For the Grimes, the 49ers’ successful season has kept the wedding vibes alive long after their special day. As they continue to root for their team in the Super Bowl, they’re grateful for the opportunity to share the excitement with their guests and extend the celebration.
