Controversial sports host Clay Travis does not agree with the suspension Gregg Doyel has received for his exchange with Caitlin Clark at a press conference last month despite labeling Doyel “an idiot.”
The Outkick founder took to X to express his displeasure with the suspension.
Gregg Doyel is an idiot and I think his question for Caitlin Clark was awkward and dumb, but I don’t agree with suspending reporters because their questions upset people. It’s a bad precedent to set:
As reported earlier, Doyel received a two-week suspension from the Indy Star and will not cover Indiana Fever games this season.

This from earlier today:
Bob Kravitz of the Indy Star reported that the suspension was enforced by both the newspaper’s parent company, Gannett, and the Indy Star itself. During his suspension, Doyel is restricted to writing about the Fever from home by watching games on television.
The incident in question occurred during Clark’s press conference on April 17, after she was selected first overall in the WNBA Draft. The exchange between Doyel and Clark was criticized for being awkward and inappropriate:
Doyel initiated the interaction by making a “heart hands” gesture and saying, “Gregg Doyel, Indy Star. Real quick, let me do this.” Clark responded, “You like that?” to which Doyel replied, “I like that you’re here, I like that you’re here.” He then added, “Well, start doing it to me, and we’ll get along just fine.”
Doyel apologized following the exchange, but his not issued a comment on suspension yet.
Caitlin Clark will be making her Indiana Fever regular season debut on May 14 against the Connecticut Sun.
