With the array of equipment at his disposal, one might think Conor Stalions works for the CIA rather than a high-profile college football program.
Conor Stalions has been in the news extensively, and he’s now back in the spotlight due to yet another investigation.
Central Michigan University is currently conducting an investigation to determine whether the suspended Michigan staff member, Connor Stalions, was present on their sideline during their game against Michigan State on September 1st. Footage and screenshots featuring an individual who bears a resemblance to Stalions began circulating this week.
“We became aware of these photos late yesterday and we are in the process of determining the facts surrounding them,” CMU athletic director Amy Folan said in a statement provided to The Athletic. “As this process is ongoing, we have no further comment at this time.”
Central Michigan’s coaching staff includes several former Michigan staffers, including head coach Jim McElwain, defensive backs coach Michael Zordich, and quarterbacks coach Jake Kostner, all of whom worked at Michigan while Stalions volunteered for the program.
The Chippewas recently played a game, securing a 37-31 victory over Northern Illinois, bringing their season record to 5-4. Following the game, Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain addressed the investigation related to the “sign-stealer guy.”

“We obviously are aware of a picture floating around with the sign-stealer guy,” McElwain said Tuesday night after CMU’s game against Northern Illinois. “Our people are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of it. We’re totally unaware of it. I certainly don’t condone it in any way, shape or form. I do know his name was on none of the passes that were let out. We keep tracing it back and tracing it back and try to figure it out. It’s in good hands with our people. Again, there’s no place in football for that.”
The individual in the video seems to possess a pass labeled “VB” for visiting bench. He was also seen wearing Central Michigan attire that appeared to be team-issued. To add to the intrigue, many suspect that he was wearing spy cam glasses, as indicated by the blue light reflecting off them.
Conor Stalions has suddenly become the focal point of a major investigation into illegal sign-stealing. Allegations suggest he purchased tickets and maintained a network of staff members and contractors to electronically record the sidelines of future Michigan opponents in order to steal signals. Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has denied any knowledge of the operation and has pledged to cooperate with the NCAA’s investigation.
Conor Stalions will forever be associated with this college football scandal.
