The Indianapolis Colts exorcised some old demons with a dominating 30-13 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. It marked the Colts’ first win against Pittsburgh since 2008, during Peyton Manning’s era. Despite an initial 13-0 deficit, the Colts rallied, showcasing a resilient performance under the leadership of head coach Shane Steichen.
The game was particularly impressive as the Colts were without several key players, with Braden Smith and Jonathan Taylor ruled out earlier in the week. During the game, Michael Pittman Jr and Zack Moss exited and didn’t return. Despite missing a starting quarterback, their top wide receiver, and both running backs, Steichen orchestrated a brilliant game plan.

After a rough start against the Steelers and challenges from T.J. Watt, the Colts’ defense clamped down, and the offense flourished. Steichen’s performance throughout the season has mirrored this resilience, navigating through adversity, including Jonathan Taylor’s drama, Anthony Richardson’s injury, and other setbacks.
With an 8-6 record and a three-way tie atop the AFC South, the Colts have a promising path to the playoffs with three winnable games ahead. Steichen’s steadying influence amid injuries and suspensions has positioned the team for success, making him a strong contender for the Coach of the Year award. In fact he’s currently the favorite to land the award.
While other coaches, such as Dan Campbell, Kyle Shanahan, Mike McDaniel, Demeco Ryans, and Kevin Stefanski, have achieved notable successes, Steichen stands out for handling a higher level of adversity. Even if he doesn’t secure the award, Colts fans can be optimistic about the team’s future under Steichen, especially when key players return to full strength.
