A college football game concluded prematurely on Saturday night due to a distressing sideline altercation that spilled onto the field.
Delta State University had a commanding lead of 42-18 against Chowan late in the Saturday evening contest when an altercation erupted. The incident unfolded after Delta State running back Tamaj Hoffman was forcefully pushed out of bounds following a substantial run, instigating the brawl.
Football Scoop reported, “While both the visiting Statesmen and home-standing Hawks jostled with one another, grainy video from the game’s online broadcast appeared to show a player repeatedly striking another player with a helmet.” Moreover, footage of the incident, shared by Delta State head coach Todd Cooley on his social media platform, depicted fans along the home sideline seemingly becoming involved in the fracas.
In response to the altercation, referees made the decision to prematurely conclude the game.
It is highly likely that severe penalties will be imposed as a consequence of this incident.
