A college basketball player gained online attention after appearing to make an obscene gesture towards a referee during a game on Tuesday night.
DJ Horne, the NC State guard, became the center of focus for holding up double birds after a referee communicated something to him. Despite the official having some words for Horne, the player waited until the referee turned around before making the gesture.
Although the referee didn’t witness the gesture, it was visible to everyone else. While it remains uncertain whether it was directed at the referee or the opposing team, fans found entertainment in the incident.
Horne later issued an apology for the NSFW gesture, stating on X after the game, “My sincere apologies for what happened at the end of the game. I got caught up in the heat of the moment and made a disrespectful gesture that I should have never done. That’s not who I am!”
Despite the controversy, Horne showcased his skills by leading the Wolfpack in scoring with 21 points as they secured an 83-76 victory against Wake Forest.
It’s likely that the referees will address the incident, and Horne may come to regret the action if future calls don’t go his way.
