The Los Angeles Clippers addressed concerns on Wednesday regarding a billboard near Crypto.com Arena that appeared to taunt the Dallas Mavericks before Game 5 of their Western Conference first-round series.
The billboard, which advertised Skyscanner—a website for comparing airline ticket prices—promoted flights from Dallas to Cancun.
The timing and message of the ad seemed to suggest it was more than coincidental.

The placement of the billboard was seen by some as a sign of disrespect, hinting at the Clippers’ confidence in eliminating the Mavericks from the playoffs. ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk reported that the billboard is scheduled for removal before Game 5. The Clippers organization quickly clarified that they had no involvement with the advertisement.
“The billboard at L.A. Live is not owned or operated by the Clippers. We have the utmost respect for our opponents and do not support this message,” the team stated.
Throughout the series, there has been some light trash talk and physical play between the teams. Nevertheless, the Clippers emphasized that they do not endorse such provocative statements, regardless of their confidence in the series outcome.
