Clippers Guard Arrested For Loaded Gun Found In His Car

On Sunday, a Los Angeles Clippers player was arrested in L.A. for gun possession during a routine traffic stop.

Reports indicate that shooting guard/forward Amir Coffey was taken into custody after police pulled over a speeding car in which he was a passenger.

During the approach, officers claimed to have smelled marijuana, leading them to search the vehicle.

The search revealed a loaded gun, which Coffey admitted belonged to him. As a result, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of a firearm. Additionally, another individual was cited for marijuana possession.

Law enforcement tells TMZ Sports … officers pulled over a car that Coffey was a passenger in at around 2:30 AM in Hollywood — after they say they saw it speeding.

When cops approached the vehicle, they said it smelled like marijuana — so they searched it, and found a loaded gun.

Cops say Coffey admitted it was his — and he was then arrested for misdemeanor possession of a firearm. We’re told one other person at the scene was cited for weed.

Records show Coffey was booked into jail at around 5:05 AM — though he was released four hours later on his own recognizance.

Coffey was booked into jail at 5:05 AM and released a few hours later on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing in August. Coffey, who is 26 years old, has played 181 games for the Los Angeles Clippers since joining the team in 2019.

Throughout his career, he has averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. Initially starting as a two-way player, Coffey eventually earned a guaranteed contract with the Clippers. Last season, he signed a three-year deal worth $11 million, and he is set to earn $3.6 million next year.

The outcome of his case will determine whether the team has any financial obligations towards him.
