Noelvi Marte, a highly touted prospect in baseball, will be absent from the Cincinnati Reds’ lineup on Opening Day, contrary to earlier expectations.
On Friday, MLB disclosed that Marte received an 80-game suspension without pay for testing positive for Boldenone, a banned performance-enhancing substance. Consequently, Marte will be ineligible to play until late June at the earliest, with the suspension commencing on Opening Day.

In response to the suspension, the Reds released a statement expressing full support for MLB’s drug policy and its associated penalties, opting not to provide further commentary on the matter.
“The Reds fully support Major League Baseball’s drug policy and its penalties,” the team said in a statement. “We will have no further comment.”
Marte made his debut last season and boasted impressive statistics, batting .284/.351/.449 with eight home runs and 13 doubles across 35 games. He was slated to assume the role of the Reds’ starting third baseman for the upcoming season.
The 2024 MLB season for the Reds begins on March 28 against the Washington Nationals.
