“The classic ‘You don’t know who I am’ scenario played out when New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was arrested on Monday night.
Olave found himself in custody in Kenner, Louisiana, due to suspected reckless operation of a motor vehicle, as he was caught driving at double the speed limit. The 23-year-old was reportedly seen making hazardous lane changes while traveling at a significantly high speed.
Video footage of the arrest, first obtained by TMZ Sports, depicted Olave’s interaction with the arresting police officer.
While Olave initially seemed cooperative and explained that he was simply trying to get home, he couldn’t resist mentioning his affiliation with the Saints. However, it’s safe to say that this attempt to use his athlete status did not impress the arresting officer.
“My apologies, officer. I play for the Saints, man,” Olave told the officer.
“And?” was the officer’s curt response.
Olave was selected by the Saints as the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. In the team’s Week 7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday, he managed to secure 7 catches for 57 yards, bringing his season total to 39 catches for 471 yards and 1 touchdown.
Olave should recognize that he’s not exempt from the law, regardless of his team affiliation.”
