Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson was discharged from the hospital on Monday evening after experiencing a cardiac arrest during a team meeting last week.
Thompson, a backup in his second year with the Chiefs, was participating in a special teams meeting on Thursday when he unexpectedly had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest. He was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. Further details about the incident are available here.
After spending four days in the hospital, Thompson was released to continue his recovery at home, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. His agent, Chris Turnage, issued a statement expressing gratitude on behalf of Thompson and his family.
“The family appreciates all the prayers and would like to extend a special thank you to the Chiefs medical and training staff for their quick action and professionalism during this incident,” Turnage stated.
Thompson was drafted by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Stephen F. Austin.
He appeared in one game last season, where he made two tackles in the season finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.
