Tommy Pham had to be held back following a tense moment at home plate during Sunday’s game between the Chicago White Sox and the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The White Sox trailed 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning, with runners on second and third and only one out.
The team was in a prime position to take the lead, but the inning ended abruptly when Corey Julks flew out to left and Pham was caught trying to score from third, resulting in a double play.
The celebration by Brewers catcher William Contreras and reliever Enoli Paredes after the play appeared to irritate Pham, leading to a confrontation. He became visibly upset and gestured towards the Brewers, requiring intervention from home plate umpire Edwin Jimenez and some teammates to calm him down.
Despite the incident, Milwaukee continued their strong play, adding two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 6-3 victory.
Pham’s fiery demeanor is something the White Sox hoped would energize their team, but so far, it has not translated into the desired results, as the team has suffered 11 consecutive losses.
