Talk about a promotion gone terribly wrong!
The Chicago Bears added another loss to their 14-game losing streak, dating back to last season. Their last victory was on October 24th, 2022, nearly a year ago. This losing streak has taken its toll on the team and its fans.
The Claddagh Ring Pub, located near Winnemac Park in Chicago, decided to take a bold gamble. They were so confident that the Bears would finally break their losing streak that they offered free drinks to everyone if the Bears lost. Little did they know that this move would cost them dearly.

After the Denver Broncos defeated the Bears with 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, winning 31-28 on the road, the Claddagh Ring Pub found themselves stuck with a hefty bill. Reportedly, they had to cover over $5,000 in tabs. According to the bar’s promotional terms, patrons had to arrive before kickoff to be eligible for the offer, and tabs were supposed to be closed at the end of the third quarter.
Unlike the recent viral bar promotion in Milwaukee, which guaranteed free drinks for any game Aaron Rodgers lost, this Chicago promo had bet on a Bears victory. Bar owner Kris Jackson explained that the Bears’ ongoing losing streak has been hurting their Sunday business, leading them to make this ill-fated gamble.
Jackson said “The Bears are in such a bad losing streak. A lot of people kind of gave up and aren’t willing to waste their Sundays in a bar watching them. I thought it was good idea to create a promotion to get customers to come back and watch the games.”
Kris Jackson’s decision to host the Chicago Bears Free Drinks promotion was indeed a clever way to attract patrons to his bar. Although the Bears ended up losing, leaving him with a hefty bar tab exceeding $5,000, the promo garnered significant national attention. The exposure from this unexpected turn of events far surpassed the reach of a typical $5,000 advertising campaign.
When asked whether he plans to run the exact same promotion again, Jackson responded, “I don’t know if I’ll run that same exact special again, no.” However, he expressed his intention to create a different Chicago Bears Losing Streak promotion that would provide customers with incentives to visit his establishment once more.
As for the upcoming game, the Bears are currently listed as +6.5-point underdogs against the Washington Commanders.
