Charles Barkley didn’t mince words about his disappointment with Grand Canyon’s performance on Sunday.
The former NBA star, now a Turner Sports analyst, slammed what he described as the “dumbest” display of basketball during the game between Grand Canyon and Alabama.
Despite Alabama securing victory and advancing to the Sweet 16, Barkley’s criticism was scathing. He lambasted Grand Canyon’s offensive strategy, lamenting the prevalence of one-on-one plays and numerous missed free throws.

“That was the dumbest game of basketball I think I’ve ever seen,” Barkley expressed. “Everybody went 1-on-1, they missed how many free throws? I’m not sure what they were doing offensively. I don’t think they ran a play the entire second half. That was some of the dumbest basketball I’ve ever seen from grown college men.”
Given Barkley’s ties to Auburn, it’s likely that the defeat to his rival team, Alabama, added to his frustration.
Grand Canyon’s performance was indeed lackluster, evidenced by their low shooting percentage of 32% and numerous missed free throws. Their struggles culminated in a disappointing outing for the No. 12 seed.
Meanwhile, Alabama’s advancement to the Sweet 16 sets up a showdown against No. 1 seed North Carolina.
